Break Bulk

Break Bulk

Goods that cannot be transported in or on a container by (seagoing) vessel due to their exceptionally large dimensions or weight. When sea transport does take place by container ship, it is called break bulk shipping. When these goods are transported by means of a special ship, it is called conventional shipping.

Break bulk shipping refers to cargo that must be loaded onto a vessel individually, rather than in a shipping container. Break bulk cargo will not fit into a container due to its large size or weight.
